The Characteristics of Miniature Dobermans

You will find that the characteristics of Miniature Dobermans are quite fascinating. In the past this has been a very large breed of dog. Due to specific breeding though it is now possible to have that type of dog but in a much smaller version. You may have heard these dogs referred to as Min Pins.

Miniature Dobermans can offer a range of colors. Most of the time they are black with shades of brown mixed in. The fact that they have very short hair eliminates shedding concerns. It also makes grooming something you can do in no time at all. There are some physical characteristics that are the result of human efforts when they are young. This includes cropping the ears and docking the tail. Full grown Miniature Dobermans are about 8 to 10 pounds in size when they are fully grown.

You may have heard things about Dobermans being mean dogs that are often used for watchdog services. They are loyal dogs though and not mean dogs. They can be trained to be that way though which is what occurs in such scenarios. Miniature Dobermans make great family dogs because they will be extremely loyal to that family. They aren’t going to allow harm to come to anyone when they are around.

These dogs have a very friendly personality by nature. That will continue into adulthood with the right conditions for them as a puppy. They are intelligent dogs too so they are very easy to train. They are alert to their surroundings as well as curious. They don’t seem to know what fear is so they will try anything you prompt them to take part in.

They are high energy dogs though so they do need lots of room to run around. They can be indoor dogs due to their small size but also can live in outdoor conditions. However, they don’t have very much insulation on their bodies so make accommodations during times when it is extremely cold outdoors.

They tend to bark often which can be a problem for many owners. Even so, effective training to break such a habit at an early age can take care of such an issue. They haven’t been identified as a breed of dog that is genetically predisposed to any serious types of health concerns.

These types of dogs tend to view themselves as the master of the domain. They don’t do well with other dogs being in the same proximity. If you are going to have this type of dog as a pet then it is wise to not have any others. The exception is that they seem to do well with their own offspring. If you have a female and she has puppies then you may want to consider keeping one of them.

They are well known for chewing habits, even as adults. You want to make sure you keep items you don’t want them to destroy out of their reach. You also want to make sure they can’t get small items in their mouth due to the risk of choking. Keep plenty of chew toys on hand for this type of dog and they will be very happy.

If you are interested in Miniature Dobermans you may have to do some research to find a breeder around you. There is a huge demand for them but not very many places where you can find quality dogs of this nature offered. You should be ready to pay a premium price for one. Make sure you evaluate the breeder carefully too before you make the commitment to buy one from them.
